The Municipality of Albufeira started the second phase of the External Automatic Defibrillation (DAE) program with the delivery of equipment to the GNR, Municipal Police and Civil Protection Service.
In all, the municipality now has a total of 10 mobile DAE equipment available to the community.
Nine of them are installed in vehicles belonging to various entities with responsibility for protection and security, namely the GNR (4), Albufeira's Volunteer Fire Service (1), Municipal Police (2) and the Municipal Civil Protection Service (2).
The other equipment is located in the Medical Office/Nursing Office that exists in the municipality's occupational health service, in accordance with the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health.
The mayor of Albufeira Town Hall highlights the existing partnership with the GNR – Territorial Detachment of Albufeira, since the first moment of the program, namely through the availability of several soldiers to carry out the necessary training, who are now duly qualified to carry out maneuvers life support and automatic external defibrillation (SBV-DAE).
José Carlos Rolo referred to this partnership as “an asset, since due to the proximity of the victim – the GNR is on the ground 24h/24h, 365 days a year – we increase the possibility of early action in a situation of cardiorespiratory arrest until the arrival of differentiated assistance».
The mayor states that, currently, the universe of DAE operational is made up of about 170 people, including the GNR military, firefighters and civil society, underlining the importance of community involvement in the project.
The Albufeira Municipality's External Automatic Defibrillation program, of a community nature, began in 2017, is licensed by INEM and supported by local teams of first responders, properly trained and qualified to intervene in situations of sudden cardiorespiratory illness.
Entitled “Albufeira + Segura”, it is based on the installation of fixed DAE equipment in strategic locations on the public road (in appropriate cabins), also contemplating the availability of mobile DAE equipment in the vehicles of the security forces.
Due to the program's innovative bent, in 2018, the Municipality received the award for "Best Municipality to Live", in the Social category, an initiative of the Behavioral Technology Institute (INTEC) in partnership with the weekly Sol, which has been operating for more than a decade. distinguishes the best municipal projects in the Environment, Economy and Social area.
