The Algarve continues to have the same 331 cases of Covid-19 in the last two days, while the Alentejo also registers a number equal to yesterday in terms of infected (218), according to data from the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health ( DGS) of today, May 2, which has just been released.
But today there is a new fact: it is that, at national level, the bulletin registers fewer confirmed cases than yesterday, totaling 25.190. The Health Minister, at the press conference that is taking place, has already explained that an analysis of the numbers indicated that part of them were «duplicate», «were not real new cases, but rather integration problems» of the data in the North region. Previous bulletins will even be corrected retroactively.
Since yesterday, the number of fatalities with Covid-1.023 in Portugal rose to 19, that is, there were 16 more deaths in the last 24 hours. In the Algarve and Alentejo, there were, once again, no deaths to be regretted.
The minister also explained that 14 of 16 confirmed dead in the last 24 hours were over 80 years old, thus increasing the fatality rate for people over 14,5 years old to 70%. The national fatality rate is 4,1%, he added.
The DGS daily bulletin also indicates that the number of hospitalized cases has dropped to 855 (there were 892 the day before), of which 150 are in intensive care (154 yesterday).
There have already been 1.671 cases of recovery from the disease (another 152 people).
There are currently 3761 citizens awaiting laboratory results, while another 27.895 are in surveillance contact with the health authorities.
As of January 1, the total number of suspected cases was 252.728, but 223.777 of those have not been confirmed.
