The Algarve singer Susana Travassos, born in Vila Real de Santo António, released this Friday, 29 May, a new video clip recorded during quarantine. “Mi Gitanito” is a love story in times of pandemic.

The theme, sung in Spanish, is by the Spanish singer and composer Mili Vizcaíno and is part of the Algarve singer's latest album, “Pássaro Palavra”, published in February 2019.

The video was created by the German Matthias Toews during the quarantine due to Covid-19.

In view of the social isolation that the world was forced to for a public health issue, videoconferencing has become a fundamental daily tool for all those who have access to this type of device.

Affective relationships took advantage of this online link that allowed the continuous exchange of affection and support at a critical moment.

“It was also the idea of connecting this type of communication with the feeling of being in nature. The contrast between nature and technology inspired me,” says Matthias.

As for more technical aspects, there was the intention to assume some precariousness, integrating the real imperfections inherent to the real situation: the delay between the message sent and the one received, the texture with little definition, as well as the lack of make-up typical of those who are at home during one of their days in quarantine.

Matthias says that the superimposition of the audio-visual images was interesting (filming the video call and then integrating it into nature in a third recording). This created an overlapping of layers in terms of recording and editing. Integrating everything into a virtual connection was also part of the idea.

Susana Travassos has been standing out in the Portuguese music scene in recent years. He performed alongside musicians such as Chico César, Yamadu Costa, Zeca Baleiro, Chico Saraiva, Chico Pinheiro and Toninho Horta.

“Pássaro Palavra” is his most recent CD, recorded in Buenos Aires, produced by the Argentine Alan Plachta, featuring his own compositions and unpublished songs by Luísa Sobral, Melody Gardot and Mili Vizcaíno.

The project has already gone through several cities in Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain and South Korea.
