Solidarity network in São Brás de Alportel has already distributed 1500 protection visors

Visors were distributed to «health units in the municipality, all Nursing Homes for the Elderly, Fire Brigade, GNR, Social Services and other essential services» of São Brás

São Brás de Alportel distributed 1500 protective visors built by the local Solidary Production Network, announced the São Brasense Chamber.

This solidarity chain, which aims to «respond to the shortage of protective equipment for health professionals and for all those who in the various sectors maintain public service functions», is working «almost 24 hours a day, for weeks» to produce the visors.

Thus, it was possible to deliver protective visors to «all health units in the municipality, all Nursing Homes, Firefighters, GNR, Social Services and other essential services». This is just to mention the São Brasense county, as equipment was delivered beyond the county's borders, as part of a national circuit.

«More than a thousand visors have already been delivered to the most diverse health services and solidarity institutions across the country, with priority being given to services aimed at the elderly», summarizes the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

«It all started when two young people from São Paulo, Vitor Gonçalves and Pedro Gonçalves, both 3D printing enthusiasts, started, in isolation, without mutual knowledge, to produce these visors, in their own homes. The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel discovered them, brought them together and with the collaboration of the Schools Group created a network of solidary production, ensuring the materials, logistics, transport and coordination of this mission,” he added.

«The project soon infected others makers and, at this time, in addition to the two mentors who work almost 24 hours a day on this mission, the Solidarity Protection Network already has the collaboration of seven producers, including Paulo Cruz, who very readily joined, and the São Brasenses Vicente Leal and Luís Carlos Sousa», said the local authority.

The assembly line, logistics and transport of this «solidary marathon for the production of protection visors» is the responsibility of the Sports Unit. The Covered Swimming Pools building, temporarily closed due to the pandemic, is now the operations center, where deliveries to institutions are carried out.

The “dream” of those who joined the project “is to protect all professionals who provide services to the public, to stop contagion and defeat the virus. The next step is to extend distribution to all establishments in the municipality selling essential goods and services».

Because, explained the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, the protection visors "are very effective and that is why they are already being used in our hospitals, social institutions, security forces and a little everywhere."

Everyone can help this network to fulfill its mission, just by delivering materials such as acetates, filament or 3D printers at José Belchior Viegas Secondary School from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 18:00 pm. It is also possible to collaborate with donations. For this purpose, contacts are available: tel. 289 840 070 / e-mail: [email protected].
