Monchique prohibits access to Foia

The goal is for people to stay at home

The Municipality of Monchique has just banned access to Alto da Fóia, the most visited place in the municipality and one of the most sought after by tourists and residents, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The goal is for people to stay at home, respecting "the recommendations of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS)", explains the Chamber of Mochnique.

The picnic parks and some of the most popular places in the mountains, such as Barranco dos Pisões, were also closed. This measure was taken in conjunction with the Parish Councils.

For this purpose, signs were placed in Portuguese and English. “These measures will be monitored by the security forces, in order to avoid any risky situation and result from the entry into the mitigation phase of Covid-19, within the scope of the National Emergency Plan”, states the municipality.

«The Municipality of Monchique continues to appeal for the implementation of the recommendations of the Directorate-General for Health» especially during the Easter period.
