Lagoa cancels Black & White night and Wine Show, Fatacil remains on the agenda

Access to beaches will remain closed

Câmara de Lagoa decided to cancel all events in June and July, such as the Black & White night (Carvoeiro), the Wine Show and the 18th Mostra do Doce Conventual. Already Fatacil, scheduled for August 21-30, remains, for the time being, on the agenda.

The list of cancellations also includes the Lagoa Jazz Festival, held at Sítio das Fontes, and the Mercado de Culturas à Luz das Velas.

Moreover, the Council of Lagoa decided this Friday, April 17, to extend the warning phase of the Covid-19 municipal contingency plan until May 15th.

The extension of the warning phase of the municipal contingency plan “is due to the fact that the peak of the pandemic in Portugal has not yet been reached, despite the smaller increase in the number of cases, thus requiring more time to determine the best guidelines for the gradual preparation of the lives of the community», justifies the municipality.

Therefore, until May 15, «public spaces and municipal facilities will remain closed». The face-to-face attendance of municipal services will continue to be suspended, the autarchy ensuring essential public services, such as the collection of urban solid waste, urban cleaning, water and sanitation, the Municipal Single Counter and the support of Social Action.

The accesses to the beaches will remain closed until further indication by the Municipality of Lagoa and the Municipal Civil Protection service, in order to ensure compliance with the confinement rules.

President Luís Encarnação praises "the responsible posture" of the Lagoans and says that "it is also thanks to their sacrifice that Lagoa has not registered new cases for 11 days."

The mayor also calls for the "community of the municipality to continue to comply with the rules of social isolation, hygiene, and the use of masks."
