Hospital de São Gonçalo de Lagos is already receiving patients with Covid-19

Hospital de São Gonçalo de Lagos is «entirely dedicated to receiving suspected cases or patients already diagnosed by Covid-19»

The Hospital of São Gonçalo de Lagos, which is private, has been receiving patients with Covid-1 since this Wednesday, April 19st.

According to the HPA Group, the Hospital of São Gonçalo de Lagos is "entirely dedicated to receiving suspected cases or patients already diagnosed by Covid-19, having already admitted the first patients".

One of the cases was transferred from the Hospital of Faro and the other from one of the clinics that are part of the Group.

«The entire hospital unit was restructured and reinforced in terms of internal circuits, accessibility, hospitalization and intensive care to treat this type of patient. At this stage, 14 patients may be admitted to the ward (1 patient/room) and four to intensive care», explains the HPA Group.

Human resources were also prepared for the demanding provision of this type of care, with some professionals from the Hospital de Alvor having been deployed to reinforce the local teams.

Permanent care, consultations and examinations of non-Covid-19 situations that were carried out at the Hospital de São Gonçalo, will from now on be provided by the Hospital Particular de Alvor or even by the Hospital Particular de Gambelas, in the case of pediatric care or care for pregnant women.

In turn, and in this first phase, these two hospitals will refer all suspected cases of Covid-19 to Lagos for follow-up and appropriate treatment.

However, «the Private Hospital of Gambelas is also preparing one of its admissions, so that, if necessary, it will also start admitting suspected or diagnosed cases with the new coronavirus».

For the rest, Hugo Pereira, mayor of Lagos, has already visited the hospital in his county with the aim of getting to know all the circuits of the Hospital0, also expressing "his recognition for his work".
