Man who killed a bar owner in Praia do Amado sentenced to 16 years in prison

The defendant "heard the sentence, by videoconference, from the prison"

A 42-year-old man who, in April of last year, shot a restaurant owner, in Praia do Amado (Aljezur), was sentenced to 16 years in prison, reported this Thursday, April 16, the Correio da Manhã.

According to this newspaper, the defendant "heard the sentence, by videoconference, from the prison."

This crime dates back to April 28 of last year. On that day, around 11:00 am, when Jorge Cabrita, the restaurant's owner, was setting up the chairs on the terrace, the murderer, dressed in dark and with a covered face, hit him with a shotgun at close range and was if though.

The firefighters from Aljezur and the INEM team, called to the scene of the crime, still attempted resuscitation maneuvers, but death was eventually declared at the scene.

Despite careful to hide his identity, the murderer was arrested hours later, bearing in mind that a few days earlier he had been filmed by the bar's video surveillance system trying to attack the restaurant's owner. On that day, the presence of the GNR will have avoided the worst.

The crime was motivated by the "conflict between the author and victim, which had been going on for several years", according to what the PJ revealed, at the time the man was arrested and remained in preventive detention.
