There is a first confirmed case of Covid-19 in the parish of São Bartolomeu de Messines

President of the Parish Council calls for inhabitants to comply with social distancing and stay at home

The Parish Council of São Bartolomeu de Messines confirms, in a publication made today on its website, the «positive case Covid-19» in this parish of the municipality of Silves.

The municipality adds that "the person in question, as well as their immediate family members, are in isolation, which is being scrupulously adhered to". On the other hand, he adds, the situation “is being monitored by official entities”.

Carla Benedito, president of the Parish Council, told the Sul Informação that «this is a young person, not old», of Portuguese nationality, and that «despite living in Messines, he doesn't have much contact with the other inhabitants here».

On the other hand, he added, "fortunately" for the infected person, "so far it's a mild case, it doesn't have very strong symptoms and it can stay at home, in quarantine."

The mayor explained that one of the reasons that led her to publish the public communiqué on this first case was to remind the Messins about “the importance of social isolation”.

The fact is that, he stressed, “there are inhabitants who still do not comply with the necessary social isolation, putting at risk not only their health, but also that of other people in our community. In the first days after the state of emergency, no one was seen on the streets of Messines, but in recent days there are more and more inhabitants not respecting and walking in the streets. It is good that, with this positive case, people realize that the situation is serious and have to retreat to their homes, in isolation».

The note from the Parish Council recalls "all the efforts" that have been made "so that the inhabitants can keep themselves safe in their homes, leaving as little as possible and only for what is strictly necessary."

Among the initiatives taken by the Board to ensure this is the "list with the contacts of companies in the parish that are in operation, many of them with a home delivery service", the "contacts for the program for the delivery of food and goods. home pharmacy (deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays), for the senior population, with reduced mobility and who do not have family support" or even the "printing of school work of students whose parents do not have a printer".

“If we all comply with the guidelines that are generally known by the population, it will be easier for us to eliminate the contagion networks, so that we can return to normality as soon as possible. Please stay at home!”, concludes the Parish Council in its statement.

The municipality of Silves had already, this morning, 11 confirmed cases, which is now joined by this 12th, in Messines.

This morning's DGS numbers already indicated a new case in the county, compared to Sunday. It must be the guard of the Prison Establishment of Silves, whose infection has already been confirmed by analyses, as revealed to Correio da Manhã the head of the Prison Guard Union. According to Jorge Alves, a team of six to eight guards who work closer to the infected person is no longer working, having been quarantined.
