Users of the Nursing Home for the Elderly of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in São Brás de Alportel and all employees, who are in direct or indirect contact with the elderly, were tested this Friday, April 10, at Covid-19.
The 156 tests were carried out by a team of six professionals from the Algarve Biomedical Center, who traveled in three ambulances provided by the São Brás de Alporte Volunteer Firefighters, «in an intensive three-hour journey», which was accompanied by the Municipal Civil Protection Service .
The São Brasense autarchy emphasizes that this «action was carried out in a preventive perspective and that in this institution there is no case reported or under surveillance».
According to the City Council, "the intention is to act in prevention and anticipate actions and, at the same time, keep institutionalized seniors and their families who, in the current context of the pandemic, are prevented from visiting them in safety and serenity".
In a note sent to the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and Santa Casa da Misericórdia “publicly thank the ABC – Algarve Biomedical Center and the District Center for Social Security, for carrying out this action, which results from a protocol signed by the Government between that center , the Ministry of Health and the University of Algarve, as well as the Voluntary Firefighters of São Brás de Alportel, for their collaboration in this important initiative to prevent the spread of the virus».
This initiative, adds the municipality, "complements a wide range of actions that Santa Casa has been carrying out, redesigning all its spaces, equipment and teams in a mega-operation to protect the elderly."
The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel therefore commends «the effort and dedication of this institution of social solidarity, led by the provider Júlio Pereira and gratefully thanks all the workers and volunteers, for the enormous dedication and excellent work they are doing, to prevent and anticipate the answers, in this very difficult context that we are all living».
Until this Friday they were tested, by ABC, users and employees of 14 nursing homes in the municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão and São Brás de Alportel.
