Covid-19: Government prohibits travel outside the county of residence for five days at Easter

Government will also limit car transport capacity to two people

The Government decree regulating the extension of the state of emergency for another 15 days in Portugal prohibits travel outside the municipality of residence during the Easter period, between 9 and 13 April.

A source in the executive told the Lusa news agency today that this limitation on citizens' mobility, for a period of five days, was already approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers taking place at Palácio da Ajuda and whose sole point is the approval of the regulating diploma. the extension of the state of emergency that will be decreed by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

In addition to the measure of confinement of citizens to their municipalities of residence, the Government will also limit the capacity of transport in light vehicles to two people, with the exception of direct family members.

"This measure will be in force during the period of renewal of the state of emergency, that is, 15 days," the same source told the Lusa agency.

The prime minister, António Costa, made statements to journalists at around 17:30 pm on the decisions of the Council of Ministers, then proceeded to the Belém Palace, where at 18:00 pm he will meet with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
