Mayor of Monchique hosts a cycle of webinars on tourism and economy

The Monchique Chamber will promote a cycle of five webinars, entitled “#Webinar.Mcq”, dedicated to the themes of Tourism and Economy. The first webinar scheduled for this Thursday, at 11:00 am, has as a guest Ana Jacinto, general secretary of AHRESP – Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar of Portugal.

According to Monchique City Council, this cycle of webinars has the “great objective of dialoguing with entrepreneurs and citizens about the situation in the tourism sector, as well as in other areas of economic activity in the municipality, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, which is affecting in a very intense way the region and the country but also with serious repercussions on the local business sector».

For the municipality, "it is essential to discuss adaptation strategies and know the measures available to companies, their access and how to use them".

Each webinar has a theme and has the participation of a guest, to whom participants can ask questions after their initial intervention.

These videoconferences last one hour and participation is free but registration is required. Interested parties must register through the website of the Municipality of Monchique or by sending an email to [email protected] with: name, telephone and e-mail contact and the company they represent. Through e-mail questions can also be presented to guests.

After the registration has been validated (preference will be given to local entrepreneurs and is limited to the maximum number of the Zoom platform), access credentials are assigned.

In the first videoconference, Ana Jacinto will address the support measures for hotels and restaurants in the context of Covid-19.

The second videoconference will be on Tuesday, April 28, and will have João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) as a guest. The topic under discussion will be “Measures to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the tourism sector in the Algarve”.

On April 30th, the third videoconference will take place, whose theme will be “Smart tourism: and after the pandemic? The guest will be Luís Miguel de Castro Neto, deputy director of NOVA IMS (Information Manager School) and coordinator of NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab.

The fourth videoconference is scheduled for the 5th of May, with Pedro Valadas Monteiro, regional director of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve as a guest, and the theme will be “The primary sector, small agriculture and local production in the Covid-19 scenario – supports and future perspectives”.

The fifth and final videoconference is scheduled for May 7th and will be dedicated to the theme “Forestry work in a time of pandemic – Security and challenges for the sector”.

This session has as guests Pedro Serra Ramos, chairman of the board of ANEFA – National Association of Forestry, Agricultural and Environmental Companies, and Carlos Montemor, director of the Authority for Working Conditions.

This cycle of webinars, explains the Chamber of Monchique, “also intends to promote discussion and knowledge about the main economic activities of the municipality, with a focus on tourism, agriculture and the agri-food sector, extractive industry and trade in general”.

The second cycle that is already in preparation will be on the themes of education, action and social support, health and employment and will have “special attention to the impact on the daily lives of families of the epidemic of the new coronavirus.

Rui André, Mayor of Monchique will be the moderator and “host” of these sessions. The mayor explains that "on this occasion he also wants to hear the main concerns and needs of these sectors to find solutions in order to resume activity for some of these companies, as soon as possible, and implement on the ground the necessary measures to gradually restore the new normality ».
