Algarve to the World (A2W) is the name of the team from the region that participated in the EUvsVirus Hackathon, an event that seeks innovative solutions to face the challenges arising from Covid-19.
The initiative involved 200 teams and 17.000 citizens – 678 of which were Portuguese, from the European community of innovators, start-ups, manufacturers, traders and public and private buyers and ordinary citizens.
During the last three days, the Algarve team has contributed to the search for solutions to the problems raised by Covid-19, developing a technological solution within the domain of Political and Social Cohesion, in line with the “Development of people-oriented economies”.
The main idea is to create a technological solution that actively contributes to regaining citizens' confidence in returning to normal life, from a perspective of safe&clean e all-inclusive.
A2W brings together elements from academia, public administration and Algarve companies and has the support of elements from the Algarve Tech Hub, the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Algarve) and the CRIA of the University of Algarve.
Marta Aragão (team leader), Miguel Rocha Fernandes, Sofia Desidério, Joelma Almeida, João Águas, Viriato Villas-Boas and Marta Costa Lima make up the official team.
Hugo Barros, from CRIA, and Aquiles Marreiros, from CCDR Algarve, advise the team, while Lília Martins, Paula Morgado, Sandra Vaz, Ana Burnay, Rita Andrade and Paula Gregório are collaborators in the process.
#EUvsVirus is a programming marathon, focused on developing solutions to circumvent the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, an initiative of the European Commission and the European Innovation Council sponsored by Innovation Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, and seeks involvement of civil society.
The final celebration of the event, on livestream, takes place today and on May 1st the awards ceremony will be broadcast, which may be accompanied here
