The Algarve will receive 15 fans in the «next week» to reinforce hospitals in Faro and Portimão in the fight against Covid-19.
Ana Paula Gonçalves, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hospital and University Center of the Algarve (CHUA), explained, at a press conference held on Friday, April 3, that the supplier of these equipment «said that we have received the 15 new fans at the next week".
Another 10 have been ordered, but these are not certain to arrive, "as demand is outstripping supply".
According to the official, the Hospital de Portimão currently has 12 ventilators, with the possibility of using another seven of which are, for example, in operating rooms. "They are not indicated, but in urgent circumstances they can be used," he explained.
Already at the Hospital of Faro, there are the same 12, with the possibility of using another six, also from the operating rooms.
Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, said that the region "has a maximum capacity" of 77 points to place ventilated patients: 44 in Faro and 33 in Portimão.
As for AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, it is having problems buying the 30 fans I had planned.
According to President António Miguel Pina, the equipment, which would cost 1,3 million euros, "were ordered, but ended up not being supplied to us due to the fact that the market is very competitive."
At the moment, according to the AMAL leader, "we have information that we will be able to buy other fans, but that they will cost 600 thousand euros more".
“At AMAL's headquarters, we have already reached the consensus that we are going to contribute with this money and we expect news in the next week regarding the acquisition”, he concluded.
