Nelson Conceição nominated for 2 award categories in the United States

Awards Ceremony will take place on April 25th in New Bedford, USA

Nelson Conceição has just been nominated for the International Portuguese Music Awards in two categories, “Best Instrumental Performance”, with the theme “Mister Machado”, dedicated to Professor Joaquim Machado, and “Best Traditional Performance”, with “Charolesca”, which pays homage to the charolas festival in Bordeira. The two themes are part of the CD “Descobrindo-me” released last year at the Cine-Teatro Louletano.

The awards ceremony will take place on April 25 at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in the United States of America. It will feature a presentation by actress Daniela Ruah and performances by artists Aurea, Dino d`Santiago, GNR, Miguel Gameiro, among others.

The album “Descobrindo-me” has different influences, mainly consisting of original themes developed over the last few years and even awarded internationally, such as the theme “A Menina que Gosto da Amália” that won the award Italy Award for best modern makeup 2011.

Born in Bordeira (Faro), a place full of great accordionists, this record reflects the inspirations and musical experiences of Nelson Conceição from his childhood to the present, with a diversity of musical genres that allows a symbiosis between ancestors and contemporaries, exploring relations between fado, tango, corridinho and classical music, or manouche/gipsy jazz.

Allied to some virtuosity and improvisation, this work brings above all an emotional and deep reflection on facts and moments that sparked the musical creation of themes with great significance such as “O last Adeus”, dedicated to his maternal grandmother, or “Stories of a creator” , in honor of João Barra Bexiga, among others.

The album featured the participation of Cláudio Sousa (classical guitar), Cristina Paulo (vocals), Ivo Martins (drums), João Pedro Cunha (violin), Luís Henrique (bass/bass), Paulo Machado (bass), Ricardo Martins ( Portuguese guitar).

In addition to the partnership with the Municipality of Loulé, the edition of “Descobrindo-me” had the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Associação Mito Algarvio and Beltuna Portugal.
