There are over 35 residents of Faro with access to free medications

Chamber wants to expand program from the current 135 to 250 beneficiaries by the end of 2022

35 citizens in need of Faro started to have free access to medicines, under the “Abem: Solidary Medicine Network” program, promoted by the City Council, in partnership with Associação Dignitude.

On the 5th, the municipality delivered the program's cards to 35 Farenses, increasing to 135 the beneficiaries of “Abem”.

"In the coming weeks, 25 more citizens will receive their card, making a total of 160 beneficiaries", announced the Chamber of Faro. The goal is to expand the coverage to 250 citizens "in the next three years".

So far, the beneficiaries of the program have already saved, together, «about 11 thousand euros».

«Given the successful implementation of the “Programa Abem: Solidarity Network for Medicine” in the municipality of Faro, the City Council decided to increase the number of citizens covered by this program from 100 (2019) to 250 (in the years 2020 to 2022), which will imply an increase in investment from 10 thousand euros (2019) to 25 thousand euros (2020 to 2022).

«This program results from a protocol between the municipality of Faro and IPSS Dignitude and allows all residents of Faro who find themselves in a situation of economic need that makes it impossible for them to purchase reimbursed medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor's prescription, so they can obtain them completely free of charge», revealed the municipality of Farense.

With this protocol, the Chamber of Faro it intends to reinforce “the fight against social inequalities among the most vulnerable population”.
