Faro and Olhão are already negotiating with the Government for more competences in the riparian zones

Committees are already being created to negotiate the transfer of skills in Lagos and Portimão

The Ministry of the Sea has already held the first meetings with the Chambers of Olhão and Faro to negotiate which powers will be transferred to the jurisdiction of the two municipalities, in their riverside areas.

Soon, announced the Government, the processes of «transfer of competences in the domain of port areas and urban areas of tourist and economic development not related to port activity» will be launched in two other Algarve municipalities, namely Portimão and Lagos

At issue are, like the Sul Informação advanced, is the passage to the municipal authority of the dock of Faro and the entire area that surrounds it, in the case of the Algarve capital, or the city's two safe harbors and part of the Fuzeta Riverfront, in the case of the municipality of Olhão.

For this to be possible, it was necessary to create two commissions to identify the areas to transfer to the municipalities of Faro quality Olhão.

The commissions were created at the request of the municipalities themselves, which intend to manage the destinations of these areas of the municipality, currently under the authority of Docapesca.

In these processes, which run in parallel, but which are separate for the two municipalities, all areas managed by this public company in the municipality are at stake "that are not strictly affected by port and fishing activities", as revealed to the Sul Informação António Pina, mayor of Olhão.

In the case of Lagos and Portimão, and "the commissions that will handle the processes in these municipalities are already in the process of being constituted", according to the Ministry of the Sea.

The Government stressed that in this way, it reinforces "the responsibilities of local authorities in the management of riverfronts, giving autonomy to local authorities, which is essential to deepen the process of State reform, establishing a governance of proximity based on the principle of subsidiarity".
