24 nurses volunteered to strengthen support for the SNS 19 telephone line, intensive care in hospitals and hemodialysis units because of the Covid-XNUMX pandemic, announced today the president of the Ordem dos Enfermeiros.
Speaking to journalists, after an audience with the President of the Republic, Ana Rita Cavaco said that the Order has launched an appeal to nurses to strengthen health services.
Following this appeal, another 800 nurses will be available for the SNS 24 hotline, 400 for hospital intensive care units and 300 for hemodialysis units.
In an open letter addressed to Prime Minister António Costa and released on Thursday, the presidents of the orders of nurses, doctors and pharmacists warn of the lack of health professionals in health centers and hospitals when Portugal reaches the peak of the pandemic , expected for May, according to the most recent estimate of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
