Doctors trained at the University of the Algarve and nurses from the region have since yesterday been promoting a new call center reinforcement of the SNS24 line (808 24 24 24) due to the Covid-19 epidemic, which was installed at Altice's facilities in Faro.

This call center joins what is already working since sunday in the same building, with students from the UAlg Integrated Masters in Medicine (MIM) – only the floor changes – and results, like the first, from a collaboration between the Academic Center for Research and Biomedical Training of the Algarve (ABC – Algarve Biomedical Center) and the Ministry of Health, which also involves Altice.

In this case, the team is composed exclusively of health professionals. "We were contacted by former students, some of whom are making the Common Year, and by other health professionals, namely nurses, saying that they also wanted to help the NHS24", he told the Sul Informação Isabel Palmeirim, MIM professor at UAlg, linked to the creation of both call centers.

However, and despite the attributions being the same, it was decided not to join the health professionals, all of them exercising functions here in the Algarve, with the students of the course, «so that there is no risk of contagion for the students here» .

In this way, there are more than two hundred voices that, from Faro, will give advice and guide citizens across the country who call the SNS24, helping to decongest these services, considered essential at a time when the Portuguese are being encouraged to stay at home.
