The Algarve Regional Health delegate determined today, March 21, that «all citizens returning from abroad», namely Portuguese emigrants, but also people of other nationalities who reside in the Algarve region, «remain in prophylactic isolation for the period 14 days from the day of arrival'.

As the «Regional Health Authority of the Algarve», Ana Cristina Guerreiro «urges», in the statement to which the Sul Informação had access to “that measures be taken to maximum containment of possible contagion, implementing a rapid response mechanism”.

The measure, explains the regional Health delegate, is taken "in view of the current epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 infection."

This determination may also have to do with the fact that at least one of the new confirmed cases and published today in the regional bulletin of the ARS, is that of a woman, Portuguese, "recently coming from France to her family residing in Alcantarilha", as reveal the Newspaper Terra Ruiva. This is the third case in the municipality of Silves, in fact, has no relationship with the two existing cases in Algoz.

For now, according to what our newspaper found, only the North region is implementing a similar measure of quarantine obligation for those returning from abroad, since two days ago (March 19), in a decision of the northern ARS, but also of several Intermunicipal Communities. It is assumed that the same measure will be taken in all regions of the country.

In the North, these measures apply to everyone who returns to Portugal “whether by car, boat, train or plane”.

In the Algarve, the measure applies to those who enter the land border of the Guadiana International Bridge and the airport of Faro, as there are no boat connections (the Guadiana one, between Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte, is stopped), nor by train abroad.

Since 23:00 on the past 16th, the borders between Portugal and Spain are closed, remaining open, but in a very controlled way, only 9 in the whole country. One of them is the Guadiana Bridge.
