365Algarve may have to reschedule events "until the end of the year", forcing this program not to end in May, as planned. This is a «hypothesis on the table» due to the Covid-19 outbreak that has led to the cancellation of events all over the Algarve.

Ao Sul Informação, Anabela Afonso, commissioner of 365Algarve, said that this is "a hypothesis, looking at the way things are going and the speed at which everything changes from one day to the next".

«We are still awaiting more official information, but the idea is, if necessary, there will be rescheduling afterwards and the shows will still take place under 365Algarve. At the moment, there is no one who knows if normality will be back in late April or early May», he explained.

For now, there are already some events in this program, to be cancelled, such as the emblematic Contraband Festival, in Alcoutim.

Also examples are the DeVIR Meetings, in Loulé and Faro, which would take place this weekend, March 14th and 15th, the Jazz in the Cellars (Silves), on the 20th and 21st, the concert of the International Piano Festival concert (28) at the Municipal Theater of Portimão, and the show “Diz me António”, in Vila do Bispo. These are all initiatives that have already been canceled and that have the seal – and the support – of 365Algarve.

For the rest, other events such as the Walks with Art, of “Lavrar o Mar”, in Aljezur and Monchique, and the Heritage Performing Routes, in Lagoa, are still unknown.

«We have been in more contact with the Algarve Tourism Region, which is the entity that operationalizes the program because, in fact, if we look at the DGS guidelines, taking out large-scale events, all the others do not fit because they are in equipment with less than 1000 seats», says Anabela Afonso.

But despite this, municipalities are applying their contingency plans and this leads to cancellations.

«For our part, we are working to ensure room for postponements so that the funding is not jeopardized either, trying to find a future date that nobody knows very well when it will be», concluded Anabela Afonso.
