Health, water and science were the focus of deputy João Dias (PCP) visit to the Algarve

The communist deputy was elected by the constituency of Beja

Health, water and science. These were the main themes of the visits that João Dias, PCP deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, made this Monday, February 10th, in the Algarve.

The communist deputy, elected by the Beja constituency, began the day by visiting the Lagos Health Center where, alongside the meeting with the directors of this centre, he visited the facilities, contacting health professionals as well as users.

In this visit, the PCP says that "it confirmed not only the enormous effort of professionals to guarantee the quality of services provided, but also the consequences of the options of successive governments that are reflected in the lack of workers to respond to existing needs."

In the early afternoon, the PCP delegation was received by the Association of Beneficiary Irrigations of Silves, Lagoa and Portimão, where there was the opportunity to analyze the current drought situation that affects the region, as well as the necessary investments to be made in this area in order to guarantee the irrigation capacity and development of agriculture in the region.

The day ended with a meeting with several researchers from the University of Algarve who, at the meeting with the PCP, expressed their concerns about the disinvestment of the State in the national scientific system and in the University of Algarve itself, as well as the situation of professional instability and precariousness in which many of these researchers find themselves.

From the set of visits and meetings carried out, the PCP says that "it collected elements that will have expression in several initiatives that in the coming weeks will be developed through its Parliamentary Group in the Assembly of the Republic".
