Producers show their orange and her friends in Silves

Ana Moura performs tonight on stage at the Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja

There are oranges, its juice, typical sweets and even a beer made from this citrus fruit. THE Silves Capital of Orange Show it has already started and once again gives an opportunity to producers in this municipality to show what they do, but also to create a moment for the citrus sector to meet.

In addition to local products, with orange being "the queen", but well accompanied by other fruits and regional products, agricultural machinery, phytosanitary products and state-of-the-art technology in the area of water management, among others, can be found at this fair. .

Also always awaited is the musical poster, which this year is headed by the fado singer Ana Moura, who performs tonight, at 22 pm, on the stage of the show. Yesterday, the first day of the fair, Rita Guerra did the honors at the house and tomorrow, Sunday, it will be the turn of De Moda em Moda.

"We created this show, to allow producers to share information and their problems, while at the same time being aware of what community support is, the PDR2020, the most advanced machinery, pharmaceuticals and the sustainable way of using these products" , summarized Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, who has been organizing the fair for four years.

"But as we know that people sometimes have to have some pretext to go to this type of event, we also have other things associated with oranges, from sweets to processed products, which allow us to spread the word about what's good. in the region, particularly in our county», he added.

The same logic leads to a strong bet on the animation and artistic component, «so that people, coming here to watch the shows, can also visit the exhibition».

This model has been working and is being positive for the sector, believes edil Silvense.

«What we feel is the satisfaction on the part of the producers. They are pleased that we are promoting and adding value to their product. We cannot allow the fruit to reach the stands with an insignificant value. We are here trying to give more value to the product», said Rosa Palma.

Pedro Valadas Monteiro, regional director for Agriculture and Fisheries, also considers that these types of events “are fundamental, as they allow the sector to communicate what good it is doing. It is a pleasure to see these stands designed and organized in a highly professional way. It was a leap that the sector needed to take».

The technical knowledge component is also highly valued, through the organization of the Laranja XXI conference, which is always very well attended. Yesterday, there was another edition of this technical seminar, which addressed issues that are very pressing today, namely water scarcity and the risk of increased pests due to climate change.

The Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja can be visited until tomorrow night. The complete program can be consulted here.
