Tele-assistance makes seniors in Alcoutim “+Nearest” and safer

Project involves the Tavira Red Cross

The tele-assistance project “+Próximo” will combat isolation and promote the safety of the elderly population in the municipality of Alcoutim.

This will be a pioneering initiative in the eastern Algarve, which will be implemented by the Alcoutim Chamber in partnership with the Humanitarian Center of Tavira (CHT) of the Portuguese Red Cross, with the support of the Ministry of Internal Administration.

«With the simple touch of a button, this system allows the elderly in solitude, emergency/urgency or security situations to be contacted by a specialized technician who will trigger the best response», describes the Alcouteneja municipality.

«The user has a fixed telephone terminal and a bracelet or necklace, with an alarm button, which, when pressed from anywhere in the house, establishes immediate telephone contact with the CVP Contact Center, which guarantees support in situations of emergency/urgency, security and solitude, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year,” added the Chamber.

This remote assistance will be guaranteed by two technicians from the CVP of Tavira, whose mission will be “to establish proximity and implement the Tele-assistance service among the elderly population, as well as to monitor their health status through assessments of vital parameters”.

Red Cross technicians will also travel three times a week to the homes of about eight dozen elderly people who have been flagged and are included in the project.

The visit of the CVP Emergency technicians will take place three times a week and will cover around 80 seniors registered in the municipality of Alcoutim.

"We want to be present in different ways with the senior population: through sport, culture, with the Polos of the Senior University and also helping those who have greater isolation problems, collaborating so that their security is reinforced", summarized Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Alcoutim Chamber.
