São Brás de Alportel: Renovation work on Avenida da Liberdade starts on Monday

Work must be completed by June

The requalification work of the South Section of Avenida da Liberdade, in São Brás de Alportel, will start on January 13th.

This intervention is the third and final phase of «a global project that began with the requalification of Largo de São Sebastião and also focused on Rua Gago Coutinho», explains the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

As the municipality explains, “the main artery of São Brás de Alportel will be the target of a profound intervention that aims to make Av. Da Liberdade more modern, more orderly, safer, and more accessible to all, in the path of implementing the “São” Plan Brás de Alportel accessible to everyone”».

The work, which will be in charge of the company Martins Gago & Filhos, should be completed «by the end of the first semester of the year».

The works will cost around 258 euros, plus VAT.

The City Council of São Brás de Alportel emphasizes that «a significant part of this work is integrated in the Action Plan for Urban Regeneration (PARU) of the Historic Center of São Brás de Alportel, being the subject of an application with 65% funding by the European Union ».

The project was designed by landscape architect Amélia Santos and “attempted to harmonize the circulation of two lanes with pedestrian circulation, through wider and more accessible sidewalks, while at the same time favoring road safety”.

The project also favors the «use of materials from the Algarve region and bets on the planting of trees, providing this area with more green spaces».

The intervention foresees the introduction of urban furniture, the replacement of the existing lamps and the renovation of the water supply pipes and the rainwater network.
