Ensemble “Além Tejo” presents concert “Divertimentos e Sinfonias” in Faro

Tickets cost 7 euros

The Church of Mercy of Faro receives, next Saturday, January 25th, the Wind Ensemble of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul.

The “Além Tejo” ensemble is made up of all the winds and percussion of the Classical Orchestra and proposes a program of transcriptions for wind instruments from the work of renowned composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven.

Conducting the ensemble will be the principal conductor Rui Pinheiro, with a program that begins with “Divertissement, Op. 36” by Émile Bernard and culminates in “Symphony nº 2 in D major, Op. 36”, by L. Beethoven.

Émile Bernard was a French composer of the Romantic period and organist at Notre Dame. He composed “Divertissement” around 1890, a very interesting piece because it was written for two wind quintets, an unusual format at that time.

Years earlier, the German composer L. van Beethoven completed “Symphony No. 2” (between 1801 and 1802), when he discovered that he would go deaf.

This symphony has a solidly classical form, with more classical ornamentation than subsequent works, and it was clear at its premiere in 1803 that the piece was openly innovative.

The concert “Divertimentos e Sinfonias” takes place on Saturday, January 25, at Igreja da Misericórdia in Faro, at 19:00 pm. Tickets, which cost 7 euros, can be purchased on site, on the day of the event, from 18:00.
