Construction of a roundabout on the Gulbenkian restricts traffic in Faro

Work costs 229 thousand euros

Construction work on the new roundabout at the intersection of Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian and Rua do Alportel, in Faro, have already started and led to changes in traffic in this location, which will last until 9 March.

To start the work, the traffic lights at the intersection between Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian and Rua do Alportel were turned off and circulation started to be made in a single revolving direction around a central plate defined by concrete bays and boundaries.

Two corridors were also defined for vehicles in emergency gear, on the left lane, in both directions, of Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, between Rotunda do Hospital and Rotunda do Teatro das Figuras, and parking in the area surrounding the work was prohibited.

The work was awarded on the 25th of November, to Sociedade José de Sousa Barra Filhos, for around 229 thousand euros, and is part of the municipal road network recovery plan “Faro Requalifies 5".

The construction of the roundabout “intends to ensure better safety conditions for motorists and passers-by in what is a nerve-racking area of the city, usually with very dense traffic”.

The Chamber of Faro, «in view of the expected problems of the work», thanks «the better understanding of the motorists» and recommends compliance with the signs and indications provided on the spot.
