Works aim to solve a chronic problem existing in that area of the city

The work aimed at reducing the risk of flooding near the Inatel in Albufeira began this week and should make this area of the city less prone to flooding even before the start of the bathing season.

The project “Interventions to mitigate the risk of flooding with Inatel”, which will cost 300 thousand euros, aims to solve the problems that affect this area of the city.

«Whenever there are adverse weather conditions, with heavy rain, there are flooding problems in some areas of the city, namely near the roundabout located at the confluence of Avenida Infante D. Henrique with Rua do Mar and Rua Almirante Gago Coutinho, in the area of Inatel», framed the City Council of Albufeira.

Once completed, the intervention will allow «the increase of the hydraulic capacity of the channeled section downstream from the intersection with Avenida Infante D. Henrique to the discharge at Praia do Inatel, as well as the removal of obstructions and intersections of existing infrastructures along the aforementioned section and the trench section, in the area being worked on”.

According to José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, this is “a very popular area throughout the year, both by residents and tourists, who whenever the rainfall intensifies is completely flooded, which cannot continue to happen. ».

In this first phase, the sidewalk area between the Inatel Praia building and the Santa Rita Chalet will be closed. In March, signs for prohibited traffic (except for residents and emergency vehicles) and for the start of work will be placed on Avenida Infante D. Henrique and Rua do Oceano, as well as stalls with signs indicating danger and road works.
