Cine-Teatro Louletano set record attendance in 2019

Loulé's iconic space celebrates 90 years in 2020

Cine-Teatro Louletano received nearly 37 spectators in 2019, setting a new record since its reopening in 2011, after refurbishment works.

Strictly speaking, there were 36649 people who last year joined the artistic programming of this space (with 310 places) which has been asserting itself on a “supra-regional scale for its differentiating, consistent and bold intervention, which represents a significant increase in relation to to 2018, when the statistics registered 30393 spectators», says the Câmara de Loulé.

This increase in audience (from the Algarve and beyond; and from the Portuguese, or from the foreign resident community and tourists) to the Cine-Teatro's agenda – which has been gradual since 2011 – is a reflection of a broader cultural strategy that the Municipality of Loulé says that, «as a public service, it has been developing, on several fronts».

These areas include the work done at the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Library and its centers, the Municipal Archive, the Municipal Museum and the art galleries, the CECAL, and in various projects in conjunction with the population.

The municipality gives examples of the project of the Algarvensis Geopark, in collaboration with the municipalities of Albufeira and Silves and with the University of Algarve, the Quarteirão Cultural de Loulé, the project Creative Loulé and its various valences, the Human XXI – Loulé Humanism Biennial and the Quarteira Education and Culture Center), as well as in a host of anchor events such as the MED Festival, Carnaval, Noite Branca and the Festa da Mãe Soberana.

In a more detailed analysis in terms of distribution by artistic areas, at the Cine-Teatro, in 2019, the music had 17705 spectators, while the proposals in the theater area reached 11703 people (there was a considerable increase in this universe), with the dance had 3331 spectators and cinema 827. The programming linked to the dimensions of thought, training and debate covered a total of 3083 people.

In 2020, Cine-Teatro Louletano celebrates its 19th anniversary (founded on April 1930, XNUMX by Sociedade Teatral Louletana).

«Along with a renewed image (in terms of the logo and the layout of its communication materials), the main highlights of its artistic programming for the season that runs from January to July are already being announced on social networks. Once again, there is a strong commitment to a demanding, eclectic and differentiating offer, which has been positioning this equipment as a cultural reference to be taken into account in the south of the country», says Câmara de Loulé.

Continuing to contemplate the areas of Music, Theatre, Dance and Multidisciplinary, in 2020 the Cine-Teatro will pay special attention to the aspects of Training, Thought and Debate with various cycles and formats, as well as to the stimulation and involvement of the local/regional artistic fabric and from the school community, favoring once again commissions and co-productions, also here with the inclusion of several nationally renowned artists and companies.

The new season of Cine-Teatro brings, as one of the main novelties, the introduction of a new vector in the matrix of its regular programming: the inclusive dimension at the level of contemporary dance, starting a continuity collaboration with the Dançando com Group a Diferença, headquartered in Madeira.

This commitment thus joins the three programmatic axes that this cultural equipment from Loulé has been consolidating in recent years: musical commissions bringing together artists from the Algarve with renowned national figures, Art for Childhood, with special emphasis on its training aspect and the experimental dialogues between instrumental music and image, along with new exploratory approaches to sound art (of which the Som Riscado festival is the greatest example).

Cine-Teatro Louletano is a cultural structure in the field of performing arts of the Municipality of Loulé and is part of Rede Azul – Network of Theaters of the Algarve and Rede 5 Sentidos.
