CHUA welcomes 136 interns for training and beginning of career

New year brings new interns

136 interns chose the Hospital and University Center of the Algarve (CHUA) to carry out their general and specialized training. The reception ceremony took place this Thursday, January 2nd. 

The welcome initiative was attended by 90 inmates from General Formation and 46 doctors from Specialized Formation.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, the executive member Helena Leitão and the clinical director Mahomede Americano highlighted the growing quality of the training programs for young interns, highlighting the work developed by the clinical specialties, their tutors and the direction of the Medical Internship, as well as the institution's strong connection to the university world, namely to the Medicine Course of the University of Algarve through the consortium between both intuitions, which gave rise to the Algarve Biomedical Center.

Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration, was also present, highlighting the proven experience of both hospitals (Faro and Portimão) in the training of interns, who choose public hospitals in the Algarve to carry out their training, whether general or specialized.

In addition to several service directors, representatives of the Board of Directors of the Medical Internship were also present at the session, namely its director Ana Camacho, as well as deputies Nuno Vieira and Ana Paula Fidalgo.

Within the scope of Specialized Training, and in a commitment to the training suitability of the specialties, the intern doctors were placed in the units of Faro and Portimão in the following specialties: Anesthesiology (2), Cardiology (1), General Surgery (3), Infectious Diseases (1), Gastroenterology (2), Gynecology/Obstetrics (3), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (2), Intensive Care Medicine (4), Internal Medicine (10), Nephrology (1), Neurosurgery (1), Medical Oncology (2), Clinical Pathology (2), Pediatrics (3), Pulmonology (1), Psychiatry (5), Radiology (1 ), Rheumatology (1), Urology (1).

With regard to General Training, in order to deepen their knowledge in various clinical contexts, the interns will develop their training, in a supervised manner, in different specialties and services in the hospital units of Faro and Portimão and also in the Health Centers in the region.
