Users criticize the transfer of the «highest-ranked physiatrist» from CMRSul

This measure leads the association of users to say that "everything seems to indicate that the full functioning of CMRSul will not be restored"

The Associação Movimento Determinante, of users and friends of CMRSul – Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South, criticized the «transfer of the most graduated physiatrist with greater professional experience» from this center located in São Brás de Alportel to another health unit of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve.

This decision, which had already been denounced by the PSD deputy Cristóvão Norte, was poorly received by the association, which says that, contrary to what has been promised, on several occasions, by the Board of Directors «everything seems to indicate that the full functioning of CMRSul will not be restored, especially considering account that is based on the limited capacity to justify the transfer of that doctor'.

«Where is the professionalism and excellence of other times? Right now, CMRSul is a shadow of what it was», they question.

According to Movimento Determinante, in April 2018, the association received a guarantee from Ana Paula Gonçalves, the chairman of the Board of CHUA, that technicians would be hired, including therapists, nurses and assistants, and 50 beds would be opened by the end of 2018, «a commitment that was far from being fulfilled».

«We are at the end of 2019 and the current capacity of CMRSul is only 36 beds and the tables are still unfilled. Another very serious problem is the lack of timely allocation of technical assistance. There are people waiting for over a year for technical help, sometimes simple and inexpensive, but essential in their daily lives for a better quality of life. It is inadmissible!”, they accuse.

On the other hand, there was “a significant increase in the waiting list for hospitalization (which is not surprising given the limited capacity of the CMR), the daily degradation of care for patients, the disorganization of the rehabilitation team and even inefficiency cleaning wards and common and outdoor spaces'.

The administration of CHUA had already guaranteed to Sul Informação that «keeps its intention to reach its maximum capacity and has no intention of closing services» in this health unit.

As for the transfer of the physiatrist, he said he would not comment "on issues of daily internal management and organization".
