Silves Secondary School hosts exhibition on combatants in World War I

The exhibition will be open to the public on weekdays, throughout the month

The exhibition “The Combatants of the municipality of Silves in World War I” is on display during the month of December at the Escola Secundária de Silves.

This will be the last space to host the exhibition that showcases the natives of Silvese who participated in the First World War and who, as part of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps (CEP), were mobilized to France. The exhibition will be open to the public on weekdays, throughout the month.

A list divided by parishes, which includes the name of the combatant, rank and service he performed, the date of embarkation and disembarkation in Lisbon and observations, how he received praise, whether he was medaled and decorated, whether he was wounded, whether he participated in the Battle of La Lys and who died in combat are some of the data that may be discovered in this exhibition.

This exhibition is organized by the Municipality of Silves, through the Municipal Archives and has an itinerant character.

However, the exhibition may be transferred to any entity or body in the municipality that expresses interest in receiving it, simply by contacting the Municipal Archives of Silves.
