The rain and strong wind that were felt in the Algarve this night and dawn caused flooding, falling trees and structures. According to data from the District Relief Operations Command, there were 40 occurrences between midnight and 10:00 am, in various parts of the region.

CDOS source told the Sul Informação that there were “various situations of flooding, falling trees and structures. The floods occurred mainly on the public road, due to the rising waters of the streams».

The municipalities of Silves, Lagoa and Portimão were the most affected, and in São Bartolomeu de Messines there were streets in the village that were submerged. In some places, the water reached half a meter high.

Also according to the CDOS, there was "sludge and stones being dragged" and the cleaning work at this location is still ongoing.

In the municipality of Silves, in addition to São Bartolomeu de Messines, there were also floods in Barranco Longo and Enxerim. In Lagoa, there are records of occurrences in Ferragudo, Mexilhoeira da Carregação, Pateiro, Parchal, Carvoeiro and Caramujeira.

In Sotavento, only one flood was reported, in the municipality of Castro Marim.

Despite the high number of incidents, in which around 160 workers were involved, supported by 50 vehicles, "there are no injured or homeless people to register in the Algarve", added the same source.

Even so, an 80-year-old man, in Falacho, in the municipality of Silves, was trapped inside a car due to rising water. It required the intervention of two firefighters, who rescued the elderly and removed the car.
