CHUA guarantees that Emergency Surgery will "work normally" in December

Hospital Surgeons Faro refuse to do overtime from this Sunday

The Emergency Room of the Hospital de Faro "is operating normally and will continue operating normally during the month of December with full scales", despite the surgeons' refusal to do additional work in this service, starting this Sunday.

In clarification sent to the Sul Informação, the Board of Directors of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) guarantees that «at this moment we have ensured all the work for the month of December» and recalls that «schedules are dynamic work instruments, subject to constant updates and readjustments».

The CHUA emphasizes that the letter sent by surgeons to the Board of Directors, at the end of October, cited by the newspaper Expresso, "refers to the overtime performed monthly by our professionals, who are within their right to choose not to do it."

The decision of the surgeons of the unit of Faro from the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) was taken over due to “manifestly deficient” working conditions.

To face this refusal of the hospital's surgeons, CHUA guarantees that “it will reinforce the work plans by resorting to the collaboration of surgeons, in the form of a contract for the provision of services, who have been collaborating regularly with this Hospital Center and who know well. the practices of the institution, as well as the organization of the service».

The PSD Algarve, this Saturday, has also already reacted to the release of the document by Expresso, which it considers to be «extremely serious».

The Social Democrats emphasize that the letter sent by the surgeons describes the "systematic inexistence of beds for the internment of urgent patients", the "recurrent lack of access to the operating room at a time considered optimal" or the "systematic obstacles to the performance of complementary examinations. diagnosis".

For the PSD, this reality described represents "a state so degrading that it constitutes a basic amputation of the right to health, which is strictly in line with the assessment that the PSD Algarve has made, as well as with the numerous episodes that are of public knowledge'.

The Social Democrats say that the Government's inaction “in the face of the intolerable state of affairs leads to initiatives such as this petition by doctors, who do not have the minimum conditions to carry out their functions, diminished in their sphere of action by the volume of work and constrained by the impossibility of giving each patient what they need in good time».

The PSD Algarve also says it understands the professionals and «hopes, however, that it will be possible to find a solution that does not undermine the Hospital de Faro».
