Workshop of the cycle “Ecosystem of Innovation of the Algarve” received with «vivid enthusiasm»

This session was organized under the KCITAR project, funded by the CRESC Algarve program

An event received with “vivid enthusiasm” and which had “an extremely active and interventionist participation”. This was the first session of the cycle “Ecosystem of Innovation of the Algarve”, last Thursday, November 21st, promoted jointly by the Algarve Systems and Technology Partnership (Algarve STP), the University of Algarve and Algarve Evolution, the Algarve Tech Hub partners.

The workshop, which took place at NERA – Business Association of the Algarve, was dedicated to the theme of Capital for Growth. The invited entity was INDICO, Capital Partners, represented by partner Ricardo Torgal.

INDICO, as evidenced by the guest, «has invested in companies located all over the country, not focusing exclusively on the Lisbon area».

"Venture capital tends to enter an incipient phase of business activity, with a clear indication that they will remain in companies that support the time necessary for their growth and valorization, having to ensure then, in a period between 7 to 10 years , the sale of their positions”, explains Algarve STP.

The speaker also stated that, based on his experience, people are the primary element of a company's success, and must add a set of specific characteristics, such as ambition, humility to listen to other opinions and personal projection as visibility of their own project.

INDICO – Capital Partners was created by two experienced Caixa Capital managers, Stephan Morais and Ricardo Torgal, and by Cristina Fonseca co-founder of Talkdesk, one of the most relevant Portuguese technological startups.

Created in 2017, INDICO is the first independent institutional and private venture capital for investment in nationally-based technological entrepreneurship, having launched its first fund in 2018.

Today it has a capital of 50 million euros, having already invested in around 10 startups, such as Unbabel, Infraspeak and Barkyn in Portugal (or originating in our country), as well as Tier Mobility (in Berlin, Germany). The investment per startup is between 150 thousand and 5 million euros, depending on the maturity status.

In this sense, INDICO seeks as differentiating factors for the success of its investments, special talent, unique products or services, and projects that allow it to set up a growth platform.

The meeting also counted with the participation of entrepreneurs and businessmen from the region, namely foreign businessmen currently residing and working in the Algarve.

«The event was received with lively enthusiasm by those present, resulting in an extremely active and interventionist participation. In the end, the session allowed the identification of a set of points, which will support a document that will translate the main lines of understanding on the needs of venture capital in the region», says the organization.

The next workshop is scheduled for January 23, in Faro, dedicated to the theme: “Intelligent Technological Systems”.

This session was organized under the KCITAR project, funded by the CRESC Algarve programme.
