The Chamber of Faro will create a roundabout, at the intersection of Papa 24, eliminating the traffic lights, in what is one of the critical traffic points in the Algarve capital.

The intervention comes within the scope of the contract for the requalification of Rua Reitor Teixeira Guedes, signed this Monday, 4 November.

This is seen by the City Council as one of the "most significant" works of the "Faro Requalifies 5".

One of the most crucial aspects of the intervention is the operation to be carried out at the intersection of the street with Avenida Dr. Júlio Almeida Carrapato (known as “crossing of the Pope 24”).

With a view to mitigating the waiting times in hours of greater flow, the Municipality says that "it has decided to replace this intersection with a roundabout, specially designed for this purpose".

Moreover, there will be the redevelopment of Rua Reitor Teixeira Guedes, also known as the Olhão road, which will undergo «important improvements in terms of the road surface, sidewalks, lighting, which will now be LED, green spaces and pedestrian mobility ».

The work was awarded to the Farense company Rolear on, for around 343 thousand euros, and continues the intervention to improve lighting and pedestrian paths at Rua Reitor Teixeira Guedes – Nascente Stretch, carried out in 2018.
