UAlg maintains position in international ranking with (even) more universities

UAlg is once again highlighted in the areas of "Life Sciences" and "Clinical, Pre-Clinical & Health"

The University of Algarve (UAlg) maintained the positions it already occupied in the World University Rankings of the Times Higher Education (THE), despite the competition having increased due to the entry of more universities.

UAlg continues in the 401-500 position in the “Life Sciences” area and the 501-600 position in the “Clinical, Pre-Clinical & Health” area.

«In both areas, UAlg obtained the best performance at national level in the “International Outlook”, that is, in the international projection, among the eight Portuguese universities that are included in the list», according to the Universidade Algarvia.

«In the 2020 edition, this ranking increased from 751 universities (in 2019) to 821 in the “Life Sciences” area, and went from 721 (in 2019) to 775 universities in the “Clinical, Pre-Clinical & Health” area. The 2020 edition is prepared taking into account the various aspects of the institutions, such as teaching, research, international projection and knowledge transfer», added UAlg.

The Algarve Higher Education Institution, the University of Algarve, recalls that this year, for the first time, it was part of the list of the best in the world in Social Sciences and in Management and Economics of this ranking.

«The criteria for inclusion in these rankings are to reach the minimum limit of 200 publications in the last five years in these areas and its faculty to reach the minimum limit of 4% of the total for the area of ​​Social Sciences and 5% for the area of ​​Management and Economy. In the areas of “Life Sciences” and “Clinical, Pre-Clinical & Health”, the criteria are: minimum limit of 500 publications in the last 5 years and 5% of the faculty are from the area (or minimum of 50 professors)», he explained the institution.

Also according to the results made available by the Times Higher Education (THE) at the beginning of September, the University of the Algarve was once again part of the world ranking of universities. «Situated between positions 801 and 1000 worldwide, the publication had already considered that the strongest point of the Algarve Academy is its international projection, obtaining the best national result in this indicator».

The 2020 edition of this ranking includes 1396 universities from 92 countries, «and evaluates Higher Education Institutions in terms of their performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international projection (professors, students and researchers)».
