Loulé invests in the animals of the Kennel / Cattery to encourage their adoption

Council is investing so that adopters do not have to bear some of the burden of having a pet

The Municipality of Loulé is investing in the sterilization, vaccination and deworming of animals that are kept in the Kennel/Gatil Municipal de Loulé, with the aim of encouraging their adoption.

To the animals that are given, «there is applied, free of charge, before leaving the Kennel/Gatil Municipal, an electronic identification system that allows their permanent identification, being also given the anti-rabies vaccine».

«On the other hand, all animals are dewormed, as well as sterilized/castrated, with all costs inherent to these interventions being borne by the municipality», according to the City Council of Loulé.

If, at the time of adoption, the animals are not old enough for rabies immunization and sterilization, "it is scheduled so that the procedures are carried out at the ideal time, also at no cost to the person adopting the animal".

"The municipality also develops the CED Campaigns – Capture, Sterilization and Return of wild cats, in which they are sterilized and electronically identified, also free of charge, in accordance with current legislation," added the municipality.

Under the Campaign to Support the Sterilization of Companion Dogs and Cats promoted by the Municipality of Loulé, between April and October this year, «156 sterilizations were carried out (75 in dogs and bitches and 81 in cats and cats)» .

This is, for municipal officials, «the best way to control the population of animals, reducing the number of unwanted litters and their consequent abandonment, so that, in the pursuit of this policy, the number of sterilizations will be increased in the future».

Surgical interventions also aim to “avoid death by accident on the public road of stray animals, as well as to provide their protection and permanence in a capture and shelter structure (kennel) for later adoption, in order to promote, not only the animal welfare, as well as public health in general'.
