Lagos will have an Inclusion Desk

Counter will be installed in the Municipal Office, in the Paços do Concelho building XXI Century

An Inclusion Desk will be created in Lagos. To this end, at the last meeting of the Municipal Executive, held on 13 November, a cooperation protocol was approved, to be signed between the Municipality and the National Institute for Rehabilitation (INR).

Providing specialized care in the area of ​​disability and rehabilitation is the objective of this partnership, which will be formalized on the 26th of November, in Alcanena, as part of the 2nd National Meeting of the Network of Inclusion Desks.

The branch will be installed in the Municipal Office, in the Paços do Concelho XXI Century building, a space where the GAPI – Support Office for the Elderly Persons is already operating.

The Câmara de Lagos will also highlight two part-time technical assistants and materials to ensure the service.

In turn, the INR will provide technical follow-up, specific and complementary training to technicians who may be assigned to the Inclusion Desk, the connection with similar services, a compilation of applicable legislation and duly updated thematic guides, all so that the service can be provided with due quality.

Currently, according to information provided by the INR, the Network of Inclusion Branches includes 52 assistance services installed in municipalities, to which 18 are installed in the Social Security district centres.

The municipality of Lagos stresses, in a press release, that “access to information is an essential condition for the promotion of equal opportunities and the full exercise of citizenship by people with disabilities”.

"This is also the mission of the Inclusion Desks, spaces where they provide services to people with disabilities and/or incapacity, their families and also to organizations that directly or indirectly intervene in the area of ​​disability, information on rights, existing benefits and resources in the area of ​​disability and rehabilitation, namely related to: social benefits and responses, support products/technical assistance, tax benefits, accessibility and transport, early education and education», adds the municipality.

It is also the responsibility of the Inclusion Desks, among others, to correctly refer citizens with disabilities and to carry out the measurement with public services, private entities and bodies that, within the scope of their mission, have competence in the matters referred to for the resolution of the situations presented.
