In Loco takes the discussion of local production and consumption to Faro

Municipal Market of Faro hosts the "University Thinking Global, Acting Local" on the 26th

In Loco's “University Pensar Global, Act Local” will be at the Municipal Market of Faro on the 26th of November, to deepen the debate on the theme of local production and consumption.

The In Loco association and the Chamber of Faro they will join efforts to encourage the production and consumption of products from the region, in actions that will take place in various parts of the county, during the month of November.

These initiatives aim to "encourage discussion on the issues of production and consumption of agri-food products, calling for debate decision-makers, producers, consumers and the rest of civil society," according to In Loco.

The actions will have their high point on the 26th, with the holding of another session of the “Universidade Pensar Global, Agir Local”, an initiative carried out within the scope of the CLLD “Interior of the Central Algarve”.

Here, in addition to CLLD, the focus will be on “the “100% Local”, which encourages consumption and local production, “InfoAgri” which organizes agricultural information sessions and the “Prato Certo” which aims to promote Mediterranean food education ».

The event begins with «a strategic meeting, with various local and regional entities, where the programs and support available for the promotion of local production and consumption will be discussed, with climate change as a backdrop, will be one of the highlights of this initiative» .

This university also includes thematic workshops, «on licensing of producers' markets, cattle markets and slaughterhouses, cross-cutting issues related to the theme of the event and which were debated and worked on during the InfoAgri project».

“At the table what grows near the door”, “Each meal has its story, prefer local stories” and “The defense of the planet starts on your plate: eat local and seasonal”, are some of the messages of the awareness campaign “ Consuming and Producing Local”, which will tour the county of Faro, within the scope of the 100% Local project.

The different messages will be conveyed through «educational actions of street animation, display of posters posted in strategic places of public visibility and in an artistic installation by the author António Quintas, entitled “A Balança”».

On the 26th, an exhibition of producers and agri-food products from the region will also be promoted, between 15:00 pm and 20:00 pm, at Largo Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro, in front of the Municipal Market.

"The exhibition will feature organic producers and others, providing consumers with a variety of fruits and vegetables such as mushrooms, jams, cheeses, bread, oils, wines and liqueurs, honey, among others produced locally," described In Loco.

The “Prato Certo” project will also have its space in this academy, through a food education workshop, which is also a gastronomic demonstration, promoted by chef Abílio Guerreiro and nutritionist Catarina Vasconcelos.

This initiative will demonstrate “how simple but fundamental it is for us to regain control and knowledge of our food, using local and seasonal products that increase our quality of life and reduce food waste and contribute to a more sustainable development ».
