Until recently, it was «an abandoned, disqualified space», but it is being transformed into a new garden and place of public enjoyment, which will serve the residents of the Horta do Pádua neighborhood, in Olhão.

The Municipality of Olhão is investing around 261 euros in the creation of this garden, "in an inner area of the city, which, to date, has been poorly cared for," he told the Sul Informação António Pina, president of the municipality of Olhão.

In this way, it will be possible to «enhance and boost» this neighborhood located between the EN125 and the railway, in the Olhão Station area, which brings together social housing and houses at controlled costs.

The contract for the landscaping of Horta do Pádua is already well advanced and should be concluded soon.

In this, until recently, wasteland, where there used to be a factory – more recently, “there were even horses grazing there” -, a “gardened public space, with equipment for physical exercise and a children's playground, will be born. There will also be a small kiosk for the installation of a café, which will promote interaction between people».

Resolved the issue of the old factory in ruins, which will soon be a garden and a meeting point for the inhabitants of the area, the situation of the former warehouses of Alicoop, which occupy a large area and are also abandoned, remains to be resolved.

These lands, explained António Pina, are "in the hands of the bank", under the insolvency process of the Alicoop group. «There have been some talks to try to find a solution for the space», but, for now, nothing concrete.
