Câmara de Lagos supports Via Algarviana and ALUT

Support will be given to Almargem and ATR

The Câmara de Lagos decided to maintain the annual support it gives to the association Almargem for actions to maintain and enhance the Via Algarviana and, on the way, will support the 3rd edition of the Algarvian Ultra Trail (ALUT).

Lagos is one of the municipalities that annually contributes to the maintenance of this great 300 kilometers (km) long pedestrian route, which crosses the interior of the Algarve and passes through this municipality.

The Lacobrigensian sections of the Via Algarviana are sectors 12 (Marmelete/Monchique to Bensafrim/Lagos – 30 km) and 13 (Bensafrim/Lagos to Vila do Bispo – 30,1 km).

Lagos also has a connection route to the CP de Lagos station (10,1 km long), a small complementary pedestrian route (the “Pedra do Galo” route, with 6,1 km and located in Mata de Barão of São João) and the audio-guided trail “Lagos dos Descobrimentos”, located in an urban area.

The maintenance of the road is guaranteed by Almargem – Association for the Defense of the Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the Algarve, which is a partner of the Câmara de Lagos in the organization of the Barão de São João Walk & Art Fest walking festival.

The municipal executive also decided to award a subsidy of 2 euros to the ATR – Associação Algarve Trail Running, for the 3rd edition of the trail running event of the ALU, which will take place at the end of this month, «bringing together 100 national and international reference athletes, representing eight nationalities, who accepted the challenge of running a total of 300 kilometers, mostly along the Via Algarviana, in a 72-hour time limit».
