Olhão adjudicates works to refurbish the riverside gardens

The work will cost around 1,75 million euros

the work of refurbishment of gardens of the riverside area of Olhão, next to the Municipal Markets, has already been awarded and will cost the City Council 1,75 million euros, an amount above what was initially foreseen, but still below the maximum ceiling of the last public tender.

After one first tender procedure having been deserted, the municipality of Olhano was forced to increase to 2,4 million euross the base value of the renovation work of the Patrão Joaquim Lopes and Pescador Olhanense gardens, at Nascente and West of Mercados, respectively. The new conditions proved to be much more attractive, as he told the Sul Informação António Miguel Pina, mayor of Olhão.

“There were three competitors in the second tender that we launched and the winner has already been chosen, the company that made the proposal with the lowest value, of around 1,75 million euros”, said António Pina.

However, the period reserved for complaints has already closed, without any of the other competitors having contested the result of the contest.

The work will advance "as soon as we obtain the approval of the Court of Auditors", which António Pina hopes will be "soon", although it does not risk a concrete deadline. “This week we are going to sign the contract with the winning company, and then we send everything to the Court of Auditors”, summed up the mayor from Olhano.

António Miguel Pina also said that, in this case – and unlike what happened with the works on Avenida 5 de Outubro, next to which are the two gardens to be rehabilitated -, the work could start at any time of the year, not being «need to stop in summer».

Thus, within a short time, an intervention may begin, which, according to the Chamber, will revolutionize the riverside from the city of Olhão, although without forgetting the past.

The projects that will be the subject of a new tender call for an intervention that favors the connection to the Ria Formosa, through, for example, the removal of the wall that exists today.

Structures will even be created on the current riverside promenade that project over the ria, two on the west side (Pescador Olhanense) and another on the east side, as a continuation of the monument to Patrão Joaquim Lopes, which gives the garden its name. The gas station will disappear.

To carry out the work, the Chamber of Olhão guaranteed funding from the Environmental Fund, in the amount of one million euros.
