Faro hosts international conference of the Creatour project

Conference will take place at the University of Algarve

Faro will host the international conference “Creative tourism dynamics: connecting travelers, communities, cultures and places”, an initiative carried out within the scope of the Creatour project that will take place between the 23rd and 25th at the University of Algarve.

This initiative dedicated to the dynamics of creative tourism will have «a special focus on communication and the connection of tourists with local communities, through creative tourism» and will bring together «relevant academics and professionals in this area», according to CinTurs (Research Center for Tourism , Sustainability and Well-being) from UAlg, which organizes the event.

In all, more than 130 participants are expected from Brazil, Canada, United States, Slovakia, Netherlands, India, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, United Kingdom.

Among the speakers, the organization highlights the presence of Charles Landry, international expert and recognized author on themes of imagination and creativity for urban and territorial revitalization (UK) and Jafar Jafari, international expert, researcher and editor, professor at the University of Wisconsin -Stout (USA) and founding president of Tourism Intelligence Forum (Italy).

Alexandra Gonçalves, researcher at CinTurs and adjunct professor at ESGHT at the University of Algarve, and Nancy Duxbury, senior researcher at the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra, who is also the principal researcher at CREATOUR, a specialist in the field of culture on sustainable local development and cultural mapping are other highlighted speakers.

During the conference, the documentary Creatour (on the 23rd) and the app creatour.pt – creative tourism in augmented reality (on the 23rd and 24th) will be presented.

We also highlight the parallel sessions of international discussion and two special sessions, one with some Creatour pilots on communication and partnerships (24th) and the other on marketing, promotion and maturity for the market with Marie-Andrée Delisle, consultant for tourism development for public and private organizations (25th).

A round table on the marketing of creative experiences, with different actors from the Algarve region (25th) and the post-conference activities “Married Popes: from the market to the table”, organized by Tertúlia Algarvia, and “Loulé Criativo: tour and experience” , organized by Loulé Criativo (26 October), complete the program.

«Creatour is a multidisciplinary incubation and research project, contributing to improve knowledge about creative tourism, as well as catalyzing partnerships/networks and capacity building for the development of creative tourism experiences, in small towns and rural areas of the regions North, Centre, Alentejo and Algarve», according to the conference organizers.

Coordinated by the Center for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, the Creatour project has as partners the CIDEHUS of the University of Évora, the CIEO of the University of Algarve, the DINÂMIA'CET-IUL of the ISCTE-IUL and the Lab2PT of the University of Minho . It is funded by the Portugal 2020 Joint Activities Program (PAC), through COMPETE 2020, POR Lisboa, POR Algarve and the Foundation for Science and Technology.
