Indian activist and UN adviser for children's rights Edwin Maria John will be on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Municipal Library of Loulé to present the Conference “Circles of Citizenship”.
By carrying out this initiative, the Municipality of Loulé, Between and SIGMAmente – Association for the Support of Child and Youth Mental Health embody a «methodology that aims to support the organization of communities and sustainable development, creating circles of people who join actively involve in the debate, planning and execution of actions that facilitate the resolution of their own problems».
“It can be applied both in a school context and in a neighborhood (community), with children and young people or with adults”, according to the City Council of Loulé.
This methodology is the basis of the work developed by the movement “Global Governance from below”, promoted by the organization Neighborhood Community Network, started in India, in 1998, by Father Edwin Maria John.
This work was awarded the UNICEF San Marino Prize by Alexander Bodini, for the best child-led organization for action for the rights of the child, in 2009.
Founder of the Global Governance from Bellow movement, pioneer of the Children's and Neighborhood Parliaments in India, Edwin Maria John currently serves as UN advisor for action on the rights of the child.
