Vilamoura International College wins 1st prize at Eco-trilhos

CIV also received the Green Flag

The Vilamoura International College (CIV) was awarded the 1st ex-aequo prize in the Eco-Trilhos activity, at the Eco-Schools Award ceremony: Green Flags Day 2019, on Friday, the 18th.

The award-winning Eco-Trail, together with that of Escola Basica 2, 3 in Celeirós, Braga), was developed by the students of the Eco-club of the Algarve College and is now available online.

To define it, the students “undertook research on the various possibilities for the trail to be made by the sea. At a later stage, it was determined that the route would reconcile two sides: cliffs and sand areas», according to the CIV.

«The final decisions were taken as a group, establishing 5 points of interest: starting at Praia do Castelo (I), followed by Praia do Lourenço (II), Rocha da Galé (III), Lagoa dos Salgados (IV) and ending in Pear Frame (V). The chosen stations aim to highlight geological characteristics, local fauna and flora, leisure activities and aspects of local culture”, added the Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura.

The young people who participated in this project “were very motivated to make more trails and meet others already outlined by different members”.

In addition to this award, CIV received the Green Flag, as a prize for the collective effort of the educational community towards environmental education and sustainability. 1564 schools from 229 municipalities across the country were awarded.

In the Algarve, the municipality of Loulé had the highest number of awarded educational institutions, with 11 schools with a Green Flag.
