Birds brought visitors from 36 countries to Sagres

Hundreds of people participated in the many activities that the Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival had to offer

Hundreds of people, from 36 countries, were in Sagres to participate in another Festival of Bird Watching & Nature Activities, which took place between the 10th and the 13th, in various spaces in this town in the municipality of Vila do Bispo.

Over four days, about two hundred activities were promoted, which had a total of 1500 subscribers.

«On walks, boat trips and fixed observation points, this year 217 species of birds were observed, including some less common, such as the richard pipit and rarities such as the striped warbler and the long-tailed miller. Another highlight of this edition was the observation of 100 booted eagles simultaneously, on the first day of the festival», according to the event's organizers.

The initiative also gave participants the opportunity “to discover how traditions and nature conservation can be combined, on a tour with a shepherd and a local guide”.

«Among this year's novelties there was also a strong presence of the arts, with a wide range of photography sessions (from night birds to birds in flight, and field techniques to star photography) and illustration (from sketches in the field to illustrations with a ballpoint pen)», summarizes the organization.

The Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival is organized by the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the Almargem Association.
