VRSA joins the “Angustias” festivities in neighboring Ayamonte

Official launch of the party also passes through Portugal

The festivals in honor of Nossa Senhora das Angústias will also reach Vila Real de Santo António. This Wednesday, the Algarve municipality will host the beginning of the solemn ceremony that kicks off this party, which will take place until 9 September in Ayamonte, in neighboring Spain.

On the 4th, at 19 pm, a Spanish delegation will disembark in VRSA, where they will be received. This is followed by a street to Praça Marquês de Pombal, where a Portuguese and a Spanish band will play, in turn, the national anthems of each country, in front of the Town Hall of Vila Real de Santo António.

It will be in this setting, in the heart of the historic center of Vila Real, that the flag-raising ceremony will take place and the welcome session will take place, led by the executives of VRSA and Ayamonte city councils.

After this solemn moment, the delegation, now made up of elements from both countries, will return by boat to Ayamonte, where the anthems of Portugal and Spain will be played again, in front of the headquarters of the Town hall.

The initiative ends with solemn speeches and the official opening of the “Angustias” festivities, which will be symbolically marked by the inauguration of the lighting in the Ayamontina pilgrimage, an act popularly known as “el encendido del alumbrado”.
