Accessible tourism is the subject of a seminar at the Penha Campus

15 experts will participate in the seminar

The final seminar of the ACCES4ALL project – Accessibility for All in Tourism will take place next Monday, September 30, between 10:00 am and 17:30 pm, in Auditorium 1.5 of the Penha Campus Penha, University of Algarve.

This seminar will be attended by 15 specialists whose communications will be based on research work, case studies and good practices, both nationally and internationally.

ACCES4ALL «has a holistic perspective of “accessibility for all” and focuses on bus stops, as a modal interface, and on routes of touristic interest in hotels», explain the project's promoters.

The initiative «had as main objective to develop a pilot study of an accessible, smart and sustainable bus stop, to be located at the International Airport of Faro».

Within the scope of the project, a Pedestrian Accessibility Study was also developed in the urban environment surrounding the Riverside Hotel & Spa, in Ferragudo, considering human diversity (universal design).

The project activities were developed by researchers from the beneficiary entities of the project and students from the University of Algarve (ISE, ESEC, ESGHT), having had the collaboration of blind people, people with low vision, other people with reduced mobility and elderly tourists, through study visits and workshops.

The promoters of ACES4ALL consider that «the involvement of interested parties allowed us to have a perception of the conditions of universal accessibility of spaces. The final results influenced the approach “age sensitive design” and its further development. The future implementation of the recommended solutions will contribute to the promotion of sustainable and intelligent mobility, senior tourism and social inclusion, in other words, Accessible Tourism”.

The ACCES4ALL Project is financed by National Funds through the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology and by the FEDER, CRESC Algarve 2020 and Norte 2020 Operational Programs.

The beneficiary entities are the University of Algarve (Coordination), CEIIA – Center for Engineering and Development and the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.

Registration for the seminar is free but mandatory, here.
