Three orchestras, a choir and Katia Guerreiro welcome tourists to the airport

Action took place on World Tourism Day

Passengers who arrived yesterday at Faro, from East Midlands Airport, in the United Kingdom, had a surprise waiting for them: a show performed by three orchestras, a choir and the fado singer Katia Guerreiro.

The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) and the Airport of Faro came together to celebrate World Tourism Day with an “out of the box” initiative. For this, they invited the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, Beiras and Norte, the OCS choir and the fado singer Katia Guerreiro for a concert in the middle of the airport infrastructure.

An initiative that surprised the newly arrived travelers, who, even so, did not stay long in the place, despite, in many cases, taking the opportunity to take photographs.

In this case, tourists who had a very original arrival at their destination traveled on a Ryanair plane, a company that has been much talked about for having announced that it would close the base in Faro, a decision that was partially reversed.

Although those responsible for the action assure that it was a coincidence and that it was even for another flight, from a different company, to be the target of the initiative, this is still a sign.

“We wanted to celebrate World Tourism Day by coming to the first place that many tourists step onto when they come to our land, this being one of the gateways to the region, to offer those who visit us with a welcome concert. Basically, it's about providing a special moment at the precise time they arrive in the region», he told the Sul Informação the president of RTA João Fernandes.

«We have carried out, over the years, several out-of-the-box initiatives. This one is too. Whenever we manage to create a different moment that demonstrates our hospitality, things go well», he added.

This action takes place at a time when there are several situations overshadowing tourism in the Algarve, not only the downsizing of Ryanair's operation, but also the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook. This makes it even more important, considered the president of the RTA.

«Some airlines have gone bankrupt, but we are here to demonstrate that the airport of Faro it continues to grow every month and the region continues to have an excellent performance, which has expanded beyond the high season», concluded João Fernandes.
